What we collect
Information you choose to add
Rootsy stores the information you add so you can track one or more dogs over time. That can include:
- Account details such as your email address and sign-in information
- Dog profile details such as name, breed, sex, date of birth or estimated birth year, weight, background, and health notes
- Meals, saved foods, ingredients, treats, and food trials
- Symptoms, stool scores, custom symptoms, and symptom notes
- Medication and supplement logs, including repeat medication details if you save them
- Environmental exposures such as pollen, grass, dust, mould, smoke, or cleaning products
- Vet contact details if you choose to add them
- Support or problem reports that include the page, dog, and device information needed to help us troubleshoot
Why we use it
How we use your information
- To run your account, sign you in, and keep your tracker synced
- To save and display your dogs, meals, symptoms, medication, and environmental logs
- To generate reports, timelines, insights, and shared views that you choose to create
- To help you prepare a Vet handover from your own device
- To respond to support requests and improve the app
- To use aggregated or de-identified usage data for research and app improvements to help keep Rootsy free
- To send marketing or update emails only if you have opted in where that applies
Lawful basis
Why we are allowed to use it
We use your data because it is needed to provide the Rootsy service, because some processing is needed to keep the app secure and working properly, because we may have legal duties to keep records, because we may rely on legitimate interests to improve the app using aggregated or de-identified data for research and app improvements, and because we may rely on consent for marketing emails.
Sharing
When data may be shared
- We use service providers for hosting, authentication, and data storage
- Vet details you add are only used when you choose to prepare or send a report email from your device
- The full report download and printable report stay on your device unless you choose to send or share them
- The optional shared link creates a read-only insights and timeline page for one dog, and you can choose whether to include a small dog summary
- Anyone with the shared link can view that page until you turn sharing off or create a new link
- We do not sell your personal information
Storage
How long we keep it
We keep your account and tracker data while your account is active and for as long as we need it to provide the service. Browser storage is also used for a few convenience settings, such as remembering the selected dog and the current tab.
If you want us to remove or correct information, contact us and we will help where we can.
Your rights
What you can ask for
- Access to the information we hold about you
- Correction of inaccurate information
- Deletion of information where we are able to do that
- Stopping marketing emails by using the unsubscribe link in those emails
- A complaint or question handled through the contact email above
Updates
Policy changes
We may update this page if the app changes or if we need to clarify how data is handled.
